Grandpa Gary and Grandma Bee Visit

Grandpa Gary and Grandma Bee made the nearly 700 mile drive from Indiana on Monday. They both loved holding their newest grandson. Grandma Bee seemed to have the magic touch for putting Gabe to sleep. Jake loved playing with Grandpa and showing off for him at the dog park. Grandpa made his famous pancakes and crockpot pizza. Otherwise, he actually had time to relax for a couple days. A lot of Fox News Channel and a couple of movies were watched. Their time out here went really fast, and all too soon they were heading back to the farm.

Gabe's Second Doctor Appointment
Gabe just returned from his 2 week check-up. They like to make sure that babies regain their birth weight by their 2 week appointment. Well Gabe hit that mark...and passed it by another 1 lb 3 oz! He weighed in at a hefty 8 lbs 6 oz. The doctor just looked at me and said, "What do you have power milk or something?" I told her I just come from good cow stock. So everything going well in that department!! He grew an inch in length and his head also grew another inch. Thank goodness I don't have to push him out now!
So Gabe is growing rapidly and the doctor was very happy about how he was doing.
We'll go back for his 2 month in another 6 weeks for his dreaded S-H-O-T-S!!

Grandpa and Grandma McMicken Visit

Grandpa and Grandma McMicken and Aunt Katy came down from New Hampshire to stay a few days and visit. Gabe made the rounds from Grandpa to Grandma to Katy. Jake was ecstatic to see Grandpa and Katy -- finally a few people to give him some attention! Grandma brought homemade lasagna that was well frozen for the trip down. While it baked, we had plenty of time for salad and breadsticks and to toast the new grandchild with some nice chianti.

Gabe's First Trip to the Doctor's Office
Gabe had his first trip to Westfield Pediatrics today for a scheduled visit. Nurse Practitioner Scudder checked him out and said he was doing great. Though his birth weight was 7 lbs. 3 oz., by the time we checked out of the hospital on Friday, he was down to 6 lbs. 11 oz. (It's typical for babies to lose weight in their first few days.) Today Gabe weighed 7 lbs. 4 oz., so Mommy's doing a great job of getting him fed!
Overnight Visitors

Uncle Jon and Aunt Sharna came over Saturday evening to visit. They made us an awesome dinner that included Jon's special filet mignon topped with asparagus and hollandaise sauce. It was clear that they enjoyed spending time with their new nephew, as it was hard to pry him away -- Daddy was starting to get jealous! Seriously though, they were such great help. They spent the night and then got breakfast and grilled lunch for us on Sunday. They eventually had to leave to go visit another couple with a newborn, but I have a feeling they'll be back real soon!

Jake Meets Gabe

When Naomi went into labor, Ryan took Jake for a night. He even took him to the dog park and gave him a bath afterwards -- thanks Ryan! The next day I took Jake to board him at the Barker Lounge for a couple days. Today Jake came home and got to meet Gabe. He sniffed him and licked his hand, then walked away. Now he follows around whoever is carrying Gabe and lays down wherever they stop. He has been real gentle around Gabe. We'll keep a close eye on Jake and never leave him alone with Gabe, but I think he's going to be great with him.
What Color Are His Eyes?

Last night at home was the first time Gabe had really opened his eyes for Daddy. We had a staredown for about 10 minutes as I tried to figure out what color they were. After a little back-and-forth and a second opinion from Mommy, I can report with 90 percent certainty that they are brown.UPDATE: We can now report with 100 percent certainty that Gabe's eyes are brown.
